Foundation design scope covers up to 100 monopiles for 1.5GW project
Wood Thilsted has secured the foundation detailed design contract for the 1.5GW Outer Dowsing offshore wind project, located 33 miles off the Lincolnshire coast.
The offshore wind engineering consultancy said the contract covers the detailed design of up to 100 monopile foundations for one of the UK’s largest planned offshore wind developments.
Wood Thilsted added that the award follows its successful completion of front-end engineering and design (FEED) activities earlier in 2026, extending its involvement in the project through the next phase of delivery.
The scope includes integrating site conditions, structural performance, constructability and environmental considerations into the foundation design.
Outer Dowsing is being developed by a consortium comprising TotalEnergies, Macquarie and Broadhelm Renewables, and Gulf Development.
The wind farm is expected to generate enough electricity to power 1.6 million homes and deliver approximately £2 billion of UK investment over its lifetime.
The project is also expected to support thousands of skilled jobs during construction and hundreds more throughout more than three decades of operations.
“Securing the Detailed Design scope reflects the strength of the collaboration we’ve built with the Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind team over the past two years,” said Wood Thilsted project director Matthew Simms.
“Having developed a deep understanding of the site and project requirements through FEED, we’re well positioned to help deliver foundation solutions that balance technical excellence, efficient execution and environmental stewardship.
“Bringing these disciplines together within a single team, alongside the knowledge gained throughout project development, helps create more efficient and robust engineering solutions.”
