Decom Mission Awards Shine a Light on Industry Excellence

The winners of the ninth annual Decom Mission Awards, sponsored by DeepOcean, were announced on Thursday 28th May, at a ceremony which rounded off the trade organisation’s flagship event, Decom Week.

The Awards, which were established by Decom Mission to champion success across various key elements in decommissioning, once again focused on excellence in Sustainability, Safety, Innovation and the Emerging Professionals who excel in the industry. The long-standing category of “Decom Mission Member” acknowledged outstanding achievement from within the organisation’s international membership.

Sam Long, Decom Mission CEO commented: “Congratulations to our category winners, whose innovation, leadership and commitment play an important role in shaping the future of decommissioning across the global energy industry.”

The winners of the Decom Mission Awards 2026 are:

Safety in Decommissioning, sponsored by NDA: ABLE UK – recognised for the implementation of an engineering-led safety system built on the principle that risk is eliminated not only through training, but through world-class engineering, planning, and operational discipline.

Innovation in Decommissioning: DeepOcean – for its innovation in engineering to remotely execute the complex flushing and disconnection of the subsea infrastructure of the Gryphon field, safely disconnecting and towing the FPSO in line with the decommissioning programme.

Emerging Professional in Decommissioning, sponsored by North Sea Transition Authority: Cameron Thorp of Subsea Pressure Controls was awarded the winning spot, for the impressive progress he has made in the short time since he joined the company in December 2023. Appointed Engineering Manager in July 2024, Cameron has been working on the development of a Universal Wellhead Retrieval Clamp which has had a significant impact upon operations.

Sustainability: Kishorn Port – for the ongoing regeneration of the Port and Drydock as an example of commitment to innovation in sustainability, waste reduction and circular economy practices. With sustainability at the centre of the regeneration the Port is reusing materials, improving local resource efficiency, and long-term environmental stewardship.

Decom Mission Member Award, sponsored by ASCO: Boskalis – for the creation of The Decom Collective, a new collaborative model which is shaping how decommissioning is planned and delivered in the North Sea. It has already enabled more efficient campaign planning and reduced avoidable non‑productive time, and currently comprises three signed members, each planning and delivering all decom activity through the Collective for the next ten years.
