Chevron confirms gas from Mediterranean Sea appraisal

Drilling results confirm the extension of gas-bearing reservoirs and an additional gas-bearing interval, supporting further field appraisal and assessment of development opportunities.

Chevron Corp. and Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources confirm gas from the Nargis-2 well in the Mediterranean Sea.

Drilling operations began in May through a partnership involving Chevron, its partners, and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Co. (EGAS).

Nargis-2 appraised the extensions of the Nargis discovery and tested deeper geological intervals as part of efforts to expand exploration activities and maximize the potential of the Mediterranean Sea, including formations characterized by high pressures and temperatures.

The well reached a total depth exceeding 5,000 m. Results indicated up to 35 m of net gas pay, confirming the extension of the gas-bearing reservoirs previously identified in the Nargis-1 well, in addition to encountering additional gas-bearing interval with high-quality reservoir properties.

The results support ongoing efforts to appraise Nargis discovery, made in 2022, and accelerate work toward the commercial development of the field as one of the undeveloped discoveries.

Chevron operates Nargis area in partnership with Italy’s Eni SPA, UAE’s Mubadala Petroleum LLC (Mubadala Energy), and Egypt’s Tharwa Petroleum Co. SAE.
