Equinor Awards Baker Hughes Two Contract Extensions and DeepOcean Subsea Work Across the North Sea

Baker Hughes extends two oilfield services contracts while DeepOcean secures subsea work for multiple fields including Johan Castberg

Equinor has extended two contracts with US-based Baker Hughes to provide integrated drilling and well services solutions, as well as wireline intervention services in the North Sea.

The multi-year extensions will provide fully integrated intervention services with complementary technologies from unnamed service partners, with the aim of extending life and performance of offshore wells.

Baker Hughes said it will utilise technologies including the Kantori autonomous well construction solution and TRU-ARMS advanced reservoir mapping services to develop offshore resources.

“From greenfield well construction operations to interventions that extend the life of mature fields, our innovative technologies and ability to integrate our services can help create a more secure energy future for Norway and all of Europe,” Baker Hughes executive vice president of oilfield services & equipment Amerino Gatti said on Thursday.

Separately, Norwegian state-owned Equinor awarded UK-based contractor DeepOcean a subsea contract package spanning 2027 to 2028.

This includes work on multiple fields in water depths of 300 to 400 metres — the Visund field in the North Sea, Johan Castberg in the Barents Sea and an option for potential work at the Snorre A subsea field in the North Sea.

DeepOcean has been contracted for the simultaneous marine operation and production (SIMOPRO) installation involving a replacement of both a gas export riser and oil export riser at the Visund field. It will undertake onshore project management, engineering, fabrication and procurement, as well as offshore installation activities, DeepOcean said.

‍Meanwhile, its workscope at the Johan Castberg field will be for the first satellite tie-back of a new oil discovery to the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit. The tie-back of Equinor’s oil discovery Isflak was sanctioned last December. The operator earlier said Isflak is the first of several discoveries that will be matured for additional volumes.
