Equinor and partners Petoro and TotalEnergies discovered oil and gas in exploration well 30/8-7 S Grimsnes, located in production licence PL 190 near the Oseberg field. The well was drilled by the rig Deepsea Bergen and proved hydrocarbons.
Discovery details
Preliminary estimates put recoverable resources at 19 to 50 million barrels of oil equivalent, or 3 to 8 million standard cubic metres. The well is approximately 15 kilometres southwest of the Oseberg Sør platform and 145 kilometres west of Bergen. Water depth at Grimsnes is 96 metres.
Development plan
The partnership plans a fast, cost-effective development by tying the discovery into existing subsea facilities and producing through Oseberg Sør. Grimsnes will likely be developed with two or three wells on a standard four-slot template and tied back to the Stjerne subsea installation. Equinor expects an investment decision as early as next summer, with production within three years.
Strategic context
Equinor aims to halve the costs and time from discovery to production for subsea projects, and plans 200 near-field exploration wells and approximately 75 subsea developments toward 2035. The company’s goal is to maintain 1.3 million barrels of oil equivalent per day on the Norwegian continental shelf in 2035, with about 70 percent from new wells and developments.
Frode Skarstein, senior vice president for Exploration and Production West, said the area around Oseberg “remains very attractive.”
