Wintershall Dea secures drilling permit for well 6406/3-10 A

 

Wintershall Dea Norge has been granted a drilling permit by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) for the well 6406/3-10 A in production licence 836 S in the Norwegian Sea.

The appraisal well 6406/3-10 A is planned to be drilled using Deepsea Aberdeen drilling facility, which is owned by Odfjell Drilling.

The Deepsea Aberdeen dual derrick rig, which is designed to operate in harsh weather conditions, is due to complete drilling wildcat well 6507/4-2 S for Wintershall Dea Norge in production licence 211.

Wintershall Dea Norge is the operator of the production licence 211 with 55% interest while the other licensees are Petoro (35%) and Edison Norge (10%).

The well 6406/3-10 A will be drilled about 8km west of the Maria field in the Norwegian Sea and 200km north of Kristiansund.

The Maria subsea field produces hydrocarbons through two underwater templates that link to four existing fields.

Wintershall Dea serves as the operator of the production licence 836 S with a 40% stake while other licensees include DNO Norge (30%) and Spirit Energy Norway (30%).

The area in production licence 836 S comprise parts of blocks 6406/2 and 6406/3.
