The work started at the beginning of September and should be finished by the end of the week.
The Buzzard oilfield in the UK North Sea is undergoing planned maintenance that was originally scheduled for August, industry sources said on Monday.
The field normally pumps about 150,000 barrels of oil per day and is the largest contributor to the Forties crude oil grade, one of the five North Sea crudes that sets the Brent benchmark used for global oil trading.
A trade source said the volume being pumped through the Forties pipeline, which gathers oil from Buzzard and dozens of other North Sea fields, had not dropped unexpectedly.
“Forties is on plan,” the trade source said.
Field operator Nexen did not respond to an ed request for immediate comment.
