Two wells complete as Balal gas field progresses

Iran’s Pars Oil and Gas Company completed drilling of two wells at the Balal gas field, a joint offshore development shared with Qatar in the Persian Gulf, bringing the project’s overall completion to 42%.

Ehsan Mohammadi, Project Manager for the field’s development plan, said the descriptive well drilling and jacket fabrication and installation work packages closed out without deviation from schedule.

Two more work packages, deck fabrication and installation and the drilling and completion of the remaining six of eight planned wells, each reached about 50% progress. Drilling for the additional wells is continuing in a batch operation.

Balal, located east of the South Pars field, is expected to begin production within two years, adding about 14 million cubic meters a day to Iran’s gas output. The field’s development spans five work packages: drilling, jacket construction, deck fabrication and installation, well completions and pipeline construction.
