Transocean adds $550 million in U.S. Gulf backlog for two deepwater drillships

Transocean has secured contracts for two of its ultra-deepwater drillships in the U.S. Gulf that together add about $550 million in firm contract backlog.

The Deepwater Proteus was awarded a ten-well contract by an undisclosed operator in the U.S. Gulf. The campaign is estimated at 700 days and is expected to contribute about $325 million in backlog. Work is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2027 in direct continuation of the drillship’s current U.S. Gulf contract.

The Deepwater Conqueror was awarded a five-well contract by an undisclosed operator in the U.S. Gulf. The estimated 450 days of work is expected to contribute about $225 million in backlog, excluding mobilization fees. The program is set to begin in the third quarter of 2027 in direct continuation of the rig’s program in Equatorial Guinea.

Transocean owns or has partial ownership interests in, and operates, a fleet of 27 mobile offshore drilling units: 20 ultra-deepwater floaters and seven harsh-environment floaters. The contractor focuses on ultra-deepwater and harsh-environment drilling.

The awards come as Transocean works toward its proposed business combination with Valaris.
