TotalEnergies and partners signed production sharing contracts (PSC) on Blocks 6 and 8 in Suriname with state-owned Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname (Staatsolie).

The blocks were awarded to TotalEnergies in the Suriname Shallow Offshore Bid Round 2020-2021. Partners in the blocks will license new 3D seismic data and plan for associated exploration (OGJ Online, May 10, 2023). Exploration in the blocks will last 6 years, with TotalEnergies and QatarEnergy bearing all costs. The first exploration well is expected to spud in the third or fourth year.

Blocks 6 and 8 are in 30-80 m of water and cover 2,750 sq km in the southern part of offshore Suriname, close to the border with Guyana. The blocks are immediately adjacent to Block 58 where several discoveries have been made and appraisal drilling is ongoing, TotalEnergies said (OGJ Online, Feb. 8, 2023).

TotalEnergies will be operater of the blocks (40%) with partners QatarEnergy (20%) and Staatsolie subsidiary Paradise Oil Co. NV (POC) (40%).
