Subsea 7 lands North Sea subsea contract from Aker BP

Subsea7 awarded contract offshore Norway

Offshore engineering and construction specialist Subsea 7 has secured a contract worth between $150m and $300m from Aker BP for the fast-track development of the Lyra field in the Norwegian North Sea.

The award covers EPCI for gas lift and production pipelines and associated subsea infrastructure for the development, formerly known as Kjøttkake.

Located approximately 44 km from the Gjøa platform, Lyra will be developed as a subsea tieback to Gjøa through existing infrastructure at the Nova field.

The production pipeline will feature a pipe-in-pipe design, with offshore installation carried out using vessels from Subsea7’s fleet.

No precise figure was given, however, Subsea7 defines this contract as substantial, placing it in the $150m to $300m range.

Engineering and project management will begin immediately at the company’s Stavanger office, while pipeline fabrication will take place at its Vigra spool base. Offshore activities are scheduled across 2026, 2027, and 2028.

Subsea 7 previously secured a pre-commitment for critical long-lead items in December 2025, allowing early procurement to support the accelerated development schedule.

The latest contract follows a final investment decision taken by Aker BP and its partners last week. The development comprises three subsea wells targeting approximately 37m barrels of oil equivalent in recoverable resources, with gross plateau production estimated at around 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

First oil is expected in the first half of 2028, just three years after DNO discovered the field using the Deepsea Yantai semisubmersible in March 2025.

Aker BP chief executive Karl Hersvik said the development would use standardised subsea equipment to speed execution, with the development and operation plan expected to be submitted to Norwegian authorities shortly.
