Seadrill bags $1bn for drillship duo in Brazil

Offshore rig owner Seadrill has landed two drillship contracts worth nearly $1bn with Brazilian state-owned oil and gas major Petrobras.

The New York-listed company has secured fresh employment for the ultra-deepwater units, West Tellus and West Jupiter, each set to deliver about $498m. The contracts include additional services but exclude mobilisation fees of $72.5m in total for both drillships that are already operating for Petrobras.

The West Tellus will be deployed on the Sépia and Atapu fields in the Santos Basin in the first quarter of 2026 for 1,095 days, with the option to extend the vessel’s work scope for up to 305 additional days. The West Jupiter contract also starts in Q1 2026, with a similar duration.

Simon Johnson-led Seadrill has six drillships in Brazil. The latest deals will lift the company’s backlog to about $3.3bn.
