Emergency services were called to the Port of Tyne following the incident at around 1pm on Sunday.
A huge 999 response has been launched at an ongoing incident at the Port of Tyne involving a dockside crane on Sunday afternoon.
Emergency services including the North East Ambulance service and the Great North Air Ambulance were alerted to the incident in South Shields shortly after 1pm after reports a person had been injured.
