ReconAfrica advances Kavango West 1X production testing in Namibia

ReconAfrica and its partners NAMCOR and BW Energy are advancing downhole production testing operations at the Kavango West 1X (KW1X) well in Namibia, with testing expected to begin before the end of May.

The company said equipment and field services for the production test have arrived on location, including support from SLB and Halliburton, which will oversee technical field operations during the test program.

According to ReconAfrica, the production test will evaluate six optimized zones across approximately 420 m of hydrocarbon-bearing intervals at the Kavango discovery.

Before testing begins, the operator plans to conduct a cement bond log to verify casing and cement integrity, while a third-party contractor finalizes transport and storage permits required for downhole testing operations.

The company estimates that testing of a single zone could take up to 10 days, with the full multi-zone production testing program expected to last approximately 60 days. Initial production test results are anticipated by mid-to-late July.

ReconAfrica said it continues advancing appraisal drilling plans across the broader Kavango discovery area, with site selection and permitting activities currently underway for the next appraisal well.

The company stated that all operations are being conducted in accordance with Namibia’s regulatory and permitting requirements.
