Petrobras has identified hydrocarbons in deepwater Block FZA-M-59 about 175 km offshore Amapá, Brazil.
Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) discovered hydrocarbons in an exploratory well in deepwater Block FZA-M-59 on the Brazilian Equatorial Margin, about 175 km off the coast of Amapá, in the Foz do Amazonas basin..
Petrobras said it drilled the Morpho well (1-BRSA-1405-APS) in the Amazon River mouth sedimentary basin in 2,886 m of water. The hydrocarbon-bearing interval was confirmed through electric and rock indicator logs.
Drilling operations are ongoing to continue the exploratory assessment, the operator said without offering further details.
Petrobras was scheduled to begin drilling the well late last year after securing an operating license for the offshore drilling project from the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) in late-October 2025.
Block FZA-M-59 is part of the company’s strategy to replenish oil and gas reserves through exploration in frontier areas. Petrobras is operator of the block and holds a 100% stake in the area.
