OKEA reports new petroleum discovery near Brage field in North Sea

Norwegian independent OKEA and its partners have made a new petroleum discovery in the “Knockando Fensfjord” prospect in the North Sea, following the drilling of a development well from the producing Brage installation.

The discovery was made in connection with development well 31/4-A-15 D, drilled in production licence 055 (PL 055). Preliminary estimates indicate additional recoverable resources of 0.5 to 1.5 million standard cubic meters (Sm³) of oil equivalent if the discovery contains oil, or 0.4 to 0.9 million Sm³ of oil equivalent if the volumes prove to be gas.

Well 31/4-A-15 D was drilled primarily as a development well targeting the Talisker discovery and began production on Jan. 11, 2026. The licensees are now evaluating development options for the Knockando Fensfjord discovery, including potential tie-in solutions leveraging existing Brage infrastructure.

Geological data show that the well encountered a 38.5-m hydrocarbon column within multiple sandstone layers of moderate to good reservoir quality in the lower Fensfjord Formation of Late Jurassic age. The petroleum-water contact was not encountered. The well was drilled to a measured depth of 10,009 m and a vertical depth of 2,309 m below sea level before terminating in the Middle Jurassic Oseberg Formation.

Brage, located on the Norwegian continental shelf, has been producing since 1993 and has seen several incremental discoveries in recent years, including Talisker Cook/Statfjord and Prince in 2025. Production licence 055 was awarded in 1978, with the plan for development and operation approved in 1990.

OKEA is operator of PL 055, with partners Lime Petroleum, DNO, Petrolia NOCO and M Vest Energy.
