CGG expands UK northern North Sea 3D coverage

 

CGG has started a new multi-client 3D survey in the UK northern North Sea.

Shearwater GeoService’s vessel SW Amundsen is conducting the one-month program. This will provide a second azimuth over CGG’s existing Northern Viking Graben multi-client 3D coverage, extending into open acreage offered under the UK’s 32nd License Round.

The vessel will acquire around 2,000 sq km (772 sq mi) of additional data in an E-W direction, which CGG will process with the existing N-S data using its latest velocity modeling and imaging techniques to deliver a dual-azimuth volume.

CGG aims to address and improve imaging of multi-directional fault patterns prevalent in the region to help resolve complex and marginal reservoir stratigraphy.

CEO Sophie Zurquiyah said the project would “further de-risk existing fields and unlock the potential of new plays, near step-out opportunities, and stranded fields.”
