Afentra Secures Major Pacassa SW Oil Find and Boosts Angolan Output

oil and gas drilling

Afentra has reported a significant operational milestone offshore Angola, announcing a successful oil discovery at the Pacassa SW well that encountered 136 metres of net oil pay in the Albian Pinda carbonate reservoir. The discovery supports earlier estimates that the Pacassa SW area could hold up to 70 million barrels of gross recoverable resources, with the well now being completed as a production well and first oil expected in the third quarter of 2026.

The company also restarted the Impala-1 well, shut in since 2017, returning it to production at around 3,000 barrels of oil per day following a low-cost slickline intervention that removed a wellbore obstruction and yielded key reservoir data. This information has reduced subsurface uncertainty ahead of drilling the Impala-2 development well, which is planned to start after Pacassa SW operations and could mark the next phase in the Impala field’s redevelopment if it meets its 4,000 bopd production target.

In its operated Block 3/24, Afentra completed its first offshore campaign using a compact ROV deployed from a local vessel, inspecting subsea wellheads and gathering integrity and video data with no safety or environmental incidents. The approach cut survey costs to about $60,000, roughly 90% less than typical market rates, reinforcing Afentra’s reputation for cost discipline and supporting technical evaluation work ahead of a future Final Investment Decision on the GPQ development.

Taken together, the Pacassa SW discovery, Impala-1 restart and Block 3/24 campaign strengthen Afentra’s operational momentum and organic growth strategy in Angola. These developments enhance the company’s production outlook, de-risk upcoming drilling, and showcase its ability to execute efficiently as both partner and operator, positioning the business to capture further value from its Angolan portfolio as near-term catalysts unfold.

Afentra plc is an upstream oil and gas company focused on production and development assets in Africa, with a portfolio concentrated in offshore and onshore Angola. The company holds non-operated interests in producing offshore blocks in the Lower Congo Basin and operated positions in adjacent development and exploration acreage, aiming to act as a partner to international oil companies and host governments in a responsible energy transition.

Afentra’s Angolan portfolio includes stakes in offshore Blocks 3/05, 3/05A, 3/24 and onshore Kwanza basin blocks KON4, KON15, KON19 and offshore Block 23. This mix of producing, redevelopment and exploration assets is designed to generate cash flow from mature fields while advancing new developments, underpinning its strategy to build a world-class Angolan business and deliver long-term value to shareholders.

The company positions itself as a disciplined operator and partner, emphasising cost-efficient execution, safety performance and pragmatic project management. Its focus on low-cost interventions and innovative operating approaches is central to extracting additional reserves from mature assets and supporting the broader energy transition objectives in its core African markets.
