BP finds hydrocarbons in Tupinambá exploration well offshore Brazil

BP identified the presence of hydrocarbons in exploration well 1-BP-14-SPS in the deepwater Tupinambá block in the Santos Basin offshore Brazil, and informed the Brazilian National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) of the result. The well is located 275 km from the Brazilian coast in 2,343 m of water.

Evaluation of the Tupinambá post-salt section is ongoing, while drilling continues toward the pre-salt section. After completing operations at Tupinambá, the Transocean drillship Deepwater Mykonos is expected to move to BP’s Bumerangue block, also offshore Brazil, to start its appraisal program.

BP operates the Tupinambá block with a 50% working interest. Shell holds the other 50%, subject to regulatory approval. Pré-Sal Petróleo S/A manages the production sharing contract for the block, which was awarded in December 2023 in the ANP’s second Permanent Offer under the production-sharing regime.
