Var Energi Receives Drilling Permit for North Sea Wellbore 35/6-7 S

Var Energi, a Norwegian oil and gas company, has received a drilling permit for operations in the Norwegian North Sea. The permit was granted by the Norwegian Offshore Directorate for wellbore 35/6-7 S on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, under production licence 929. The licence is valid from March 2, 2018, until September 2, 2026, according to the source.

Var Energi serves as the operator of the licence with a 40 percent interest. Its partners include Harbour Energy, Pandion Energy, Aker BP, and DNO Norge, which hold 20 percent, 20 percent, 10 percent, and 10 percent stakes, respectively.

The drilling activities will be carried out using the COSL Prospector rig, a semi-submersible unit owned by COSL Drilling Europe. The rig is of GG5000 design, with a maximum drilling depth of 7,500 meters and the capability to operate in water depths of up to 1,500 meters.

The well, designated 35/6-7 S, is expected to be spudded in August 2026. The rig was awarded a two-year contract in September 2023, with three years of extension options. This arrangement builds on the cooperation between Var Energi and Equinor, which allows the two companies to secure access to the rig for the 2024-2026 period.
