Global Energy Network (GEN) Highlights Over $500 Million in North Sea Rig Market Shifts, Urging Supply Chain to Overhaul Q2 Strategy

ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND – March 23, 2026 – The Global Energy Network (GEN), the rapidly expanding intelligence and media platform for the energy supply chain, has issued a critical market update detailing unprecedented volatility across the North Sea offshore rig sector. Over the past 30 days, the market has seen upwards of $500 million in combined asset divestitures and major contract awards, fundamentally altering the procurement landscape for Q2 2026 and beyond.

According to the latest data compiled by the GEN Intel tracking team, supply chain companies and tier-two contractors relying on late-2025 market data are at severe risk of pursuing obsolete leads.

The most significant shift comes from Noble Corporation’s recent $360 million divestiture of four key jack-up rigs—the Noble Resilient, Noble Resolve, Noble Mick O’Brien, and Noble Resolute—to Borr Drilling. GEN emphasizes that supply chain vendors currently targeting these assets must immediately pivot their business development efforts and restructure their proposals for Borr Drilling’s procurement teams, as the designated buyer has changed overnight.

In addition to ownership transfers, physical rig movements are creating immediate, highly lucrative windows for the supply chain. SFL Corp has secured a minimum 400-day, $170 million contract for the harsh-environment semi-submersible Hercules, which will be managed by Odfjell Drilling. Currently located in Norway, the rig is preparing to mobilize to Canada for a Q1 2027 start. This transition provides a critical short-term window for the UK and Norwegian supply chains to bid on winterization, technical upgrades, and mobilization services. Similarly, recent routing data confirms the Shelf Drilling Fortress jack-up is demobilizing to Invergordon, Scotland, for warm stacking, immediately triggering local supply chain spend for inspection, port logistics, and fabric maintenance in the Cromarty Firth.

Long-term operational expenditure (OPEX) visibility has also crystallized in recent weeks. Transocean’s Q1 2026 fleet status report confirmed multi-well extensions for both the Transocean Enabler and Transocean Encourage with Equinor, locking in day rates of $455,000 and $416,000, respectively, and guaranteeing sustained deepwater service requirements on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. In the decommissioning sector, NEO Energy has officially exercised its option for the Well-Safe Guardian semi-submersible. With Well-Safe Solutions’ backlog expanding rapidly alongside the Well-Safe Protector’s dedicated plug and abandonment campaign with Spirit Energy, GEN advises tier-two decommissioning service providers to act swiftly to secure positioning on essential Master Service Agreements (MSAs).

“When a $360 million divestiture happens, the buyer changes instantly. When a rig moves into Invergordon, local contracts are awarded that very same week. Our mission at GEN is to ensure the supply chain is never hunting with blunt tools. We provide the live, actionable data that dictates exactly where the industry’s capital is flowing in real-time.”  said Kenny Dooley, Head of Strategy at the Global Energy Network.
